Removal of temporary measures for the winter months.
The Town of Acton implemented temporary measures earlier this year to provide a safe walking path for pedestrians on River Street from School St to Chadwick St. While there were many challenges, the barriers increased safety and provided traffic calming for River Street.
Now with winter fast approaching and as the DPW starts preparing for winter operations some changes need to be made in order to maintain a successful winter plow operation. The Town of Acton is making the following changes this week:
- All the barriers will be removed.
- The 6 Mailboxes by the barriers will be relocated by the guardrail.
- A white fog line will be painted 5 ft from the edge of pavement on the south side to mark the walking path.
- Hatch marks will be made within the walking area to remind drivers to keep in the travel lane.
- Barriers located on River Street by Chadwick St will remain in place.
Changes to the existing configuration is expected to be made next spring to improve overall safety of the roadway. If you have any questions, please contact the Engineering Division by emailing engineering@actonma.gov or call 978-929-6630.
