Prices for Acton Power Choice, Acton’s electricity aggregation program, will decrease by more than 3 cents/kWh for all program options in December.
The new prices will take effect as the current electricity supply contract with NextEra Energy Services ends and a new, 36-month contract with First Point Power takes effect. In addition to lowering prices, the new contract will also provide more renewable electricity and prices will be lower than Eversource’s current residential Basic Service prices for most participants. However, because Eversource’s prices are not known beyond the end of December, future savings cannot be guaranteed.
The new prices are as follows:

Acton Power Choice Standard – Lowering to 16.031 cents/kWh. At the same time, the total amount of renewable energy from new renewable energy projects in the Northeast (MA Class I RECs) will increase to 69% in 2024, 72% in 2025, and to 75% in 2026. These totals reflect an increase from 40 % to 45% of voluntary renewable energy from new projects in the Northeast (MA Class I RECs) added by Acton plus an annual increase in the Commonwealth’s renewable electricity requirements.
Acton Power Choice Green – Lowering to 17.039 cents/kWh. This option includes 100% renewable electricity from new renewable energy projects in the Northeast (MA Class I RECs).
Acton Power Choice Basic – Lowering to 14.411 cents/kWh: This option includes no additional renewable electricity above the state minimum requirement.
The new prices are designed to provide long-term stability and are fixed for 36 months, from December 2023 to December 2026. The Acton Power Choice Standard and Acton Power Choice Basic prices will be below Eversource’s current residential Basic Service price of 16.078 cents/kWh. However, Eversource’s Basic Service prices change seasonally, and future prices are unknown. As a result, savings compared with Eversource’s Basic Service cannot be guaranteed.
Acton Power Choice has a track record of providing measurable value to participants, including providing price protection during last winter’s volatile electricity market. Acton Power Choice has saved participants more than $6 million since the program’s launch in 2017 through September 2023. In addition, through the program, participants in the Acton Power Choice Standard and Acton Power Choice Green options buy more electricity generated from renewable sources than is required by law. Their participation has helped the community to avoid more than 43 million pounds of CO2 emissions. This is equivalent to the emissions associated with more than 4,340 gasoline-powered passenger vehicles for a year.
No action is required for current Acton Power Choice participants. All active program participants will automatically be enrolled into the new First Point Power contract with their December 2023 meter read. The new program price will first appear on January 2024 Eversource electric bills, and the electricity supplier will be listed as “First Point Power - Acton Power Choice.”
Participants will be enrolled in the same program option they have in the current NextEra Energy Services contract. However, participants may choose a different program option or leave the program before the new First Point Power contract takes effect, and at any time in the future, with no penalty or fee. Additional terms and conditions apply to large commercial customers.
