Licensing and Permitting Departments

Land Use Department

The Land Use Department is a “one-stop” location in Town Hall for the review of development projects and submission of construction plans.  Representatives from Building, Conservation and Natural Resources, Health, and Planning and Zoning are on hand to answer questions and assist you with your project.

Engineering Department

The Engineering Department works very closely with the Land Use and other departments to review development projects and for impacts on Acton’s land and infrastructure. In addition, the Department issues street cut permits and sewer connection permits. The Engineering Department is located in the “red house" next to Town Hall.  Parking is located at Town Hall.

Fire Department

The Fire Department is also involved in reviewing development projects and construction plans. Furthermore, the Fire Department reviews and issues blasting permits, burn permits, dumpster permits, flammable storage permits, explosives and welding permits.

Town Clerk's Office

The Town Clerk issues a variety of non-construction licenses and permits including but not limited to: business licenses, dog licenses, marriage licenses, and permits for raffles and bazaars.

Town Manager's Office

The Town Manager’s Office provides staff support to the Board of Selectmen who is in charge of the Common Victualler Licenses and One Day Wine and Malt Beverage Licenses (also known as One Day Liquor Licenses).
